Youngbloods Basketball Club

Youngbloods Basketball Club caters for juniors and seniors in and around the borough of Newham, one of the poorest boroughs in London, and prides itself on the high standards its players achieve. The club's main goal is to keep on growing and to promote health and wellbeing for the young and old whilst allowing disadvantaged young people to socialise in manner that is healthy and safe.

Youngbloods wants to ensure the club is accessible to everyone in the local community; taking into account their circumstances, recognising local inequalities and addressing them the best way it can through sport.

This season the club is focusing efforts on developing its women's team. The committee plan to do this by welcoming ladies from the local area to visit club to show them that their sporting life does not need to end because they have had a family.

Caroline Charles, coach, said: 'We hope to inspire young women. We want to get as many as possible out of their homes and to get active. We hope that women of different ages, cultures and religion will start to socialise. We're using our Cash 4 Clubs grant to buy new equipment for this project and hope many of those that come and try basketball will become members of the women's team.'
