Bishop Thornton Cricket Club

Bishop Thorton Cricket Club is based in a small village in North Yorkshire. Established for over 100 years the club plays very competitively, with teams of under 11's, up to a mixed age team of 16-40. The club itself is at the heart of the very small local community and the only club in a wider area of villages whom all support their own cricket teams.

The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1,000 was awarded to the club to enable them to purchase portable batting nets which will primarily be used on junior training evenings. With the growth of junior members, the club has had to manage with limited facilities and further netting was essential to maintain safety with so many junior cricketers practising in the same grounds at the same time.

" Being chosen to receive £1,000 funding means so much to the players and coaches at Bishop Thornton Cricket Club. With the money we have raised and now this, is really going to help put us onto a level playing field with the teams we have been struggling to compete against over the last few years. The money will be used straight away for portable batting nets to increase safety on training evenings, where at the moment it is a warzone with hard cricket balls flying everywhere. If any is remaining after that, the under 15's kit bag is going to be replenished. Thank you very much to everyone concerned, on Behalf of Bishop Thornton Cricket Club, Julian Potter."
