Sport 4 Life
Sport 4 Life is a registered charity working within four of the most deprived inner city estates in Birmingham delivering a football outreach project in local parks. Sport 4 Life engages children and young people from Ladywood, Summerfield, Druids Heath and Stockfield in structured, professional football coaching at a time, in a place, and in a style that they want.
With eight teams and an overall membership of about 300 children and young people, all of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds, the club sees it fundamental role as increasing sporting participation. They hope that by doing this, they will also steer more children and young people away from lives of crime, anti-social behaviour, low self-esteem and poor health.
The £250 Cash 4 Clubs grant will help Sport 4 Life deliver bottom-up, community-managed and volunteer-led football clubs. Simply by providing funding for inflatable goals, the clubs will begin to feel some level of ownership for the items and equipment entrusted to them via Sport 4 Life.
James Forrest, manager, said: 'Our grant will purchase the club new inflatable goal posts. This will give us increased capacity to run matches and small-sided tournaments which will mean we can get more young people engaged with the project, and playing sport.'
