Glasscutters Bowling Club
Glasscutters Bowling Club in the West Midlands is a local club, with membership formed from a mix of single parent families, pensioners who have lost their respective partners and low income families. As one of the last few clubs locally, Glasscutters seeks to provide an affordable social activity to people of all ages and backgrounds. The current team ranges from 5 - 70 in age and new members are actively encouraged to take part in one of the area's oldest and most traditional sports.
The club provides a safe, social environment where members of the local community can enjoy a gentle sport whilst taking part in a team activity. Young people are encouraged to join the club and use the green and facilities, which is rare at many similar venues. The Glasscutters know they need to bring more young people into the sport as without this, lawn green bowls will inevitably cease to be in years to come.
Joanne Antcliff, committee member, said: 'Our Cash 4 Clubs grant will see 2 long standing members of the club become qualified bowls coaches. These individuals will then provide coaching to children. The £250 we've received will mean we can up skill our current volunteer coaches which is just great news. We will put every effort into attracting more children to the sport, to ensure we can keep Crown Green bowls alive!'
