Birmingham City Amateur Boxing Club

The Birmingham City Amateur Boxing Club is based in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham, Moseley. As a local community club they have experienced great success, with two members being part of Team GB and one who had the chance to compete in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The boxing club takes on many roles. The club helps local youths to channel their energies into boxing and learning the disciplines of training, diverting them away from anti-social behaviour and allowing them to become more positive examples to their community. In addition, they have recently started classes for local females and children to teach them essential self-defence skills.

The club's goals are to be able to continue to provide the training and facilities for its members and to continue to be a positive example to other clubs on what they have managed to achieve on so little funding. The club would also like to able to expand its membership, include being able to offer separate training sessions for women.

The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £500 was awarded to the club to help towards purchasing of new equipment such as gloves and bags and to ensure that every child member has the correct protective equipment. The rest will be spent on renovations which are much needed such as creating a female changing room which is fit for its purpose.

The grant will allow the club to keep functioning and carry outs its objectives, which have proved difficult to achieve through local fundraising activities.
