Rebounders
Rebounders is a trampolining club based in Cardiff which has been running since 2002. They specialise in providing trampolining for children and adults with any type of special needs or disability or who would struggle to cope in a mainstream class. The club currently has 150 members ranging in age from 2 to 67 years.
Participation in trampolining is great fun for all abilities, and is also very beneficial. As well as helping with balance, coordination, strength, muscle tone etc it improves self confidence, communication and understanding skills and helps to develop trust and relationships with others.
The club aims to enable everyone, whatever their needs and ability, to participate in the sport of trampolining. This is achieved by providing all the equipment necessary to enable those with disabilities to participate, such as hoists, steps and a rig, and beanbags, wedges and other specialist equipment for use on the trampolines. Rebounders also offers training courses and training sessions, to develop the teaching side of the club's activities with the aim of developing the Rebounders Centre into a Centre of Excellence for Disability trampolining.
The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1000 was awarded to the club to enable them to purchase addition steps, allowing those with coordination difficulties to climb onto the trampoline independently, rather than having to rely on others for assistance, and so helping to improve confidence and self-esteem. This will allow further children to join in the sessions. The grant will also be used towards training a member of staff so that they in turn will be able to provide training courses to others.
