Shrewton Cricket Club

Shrewton Cricket Club is situated in a small village on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. The club is based at the village recreation ground and shares its facilities with other Community Clubs. Currently it has a membership of about 100 including a thriving Junior Section.

Having a village cricket club gives the community the opportunity to access a sport that wouldn't normally be easily available due to the rural location. The club has an active committee who support and work closely with other village organisations to organise events that benefit the whole community. Generations of families are involved with the club and it is not just about the playing of cricket, but the interaction between players, families and friends which has developed great community spirit and cohesion.

Jamie Mitchell, junior cricket coordinator, said: 'The grant will ensure our volunteer coaches can go on further training courses. The £660 will go a long way to funding the courses which in turn will mean more children have the opportunity to receive quality coaching. The additional qualified coaches will also help the club to achieve ClubMark which we are actively working towards.'
