Nailsea Cricket Club
Nailsea Cricket Club, formed in the mid 1850, aims to encourage and develop youth cricket in North Somerset. The club now supports five adult teams, an Over 40s XI, youth teams at under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17s level and a newly formed Women's team. 2011 will also see the introduction of an under 7's section at the club.
The club plays a major role in the community. It has invested heavily in the provision of qualified coaches and offers specialist equipment, facilities and coaching to a wide age range of both male and female members, and actively seeks to take cricket to a wider demographic and promote the sport at grassroots level in schools. This has lead to record participation in youth cricket and resurgence in female interest and will see the club use its £785 Cash 4 Clubs grant to train even more volunteers.
Adam Blower, committee member, said: 'We're simply delighted to have been given a grant. We're using the money to put volunteers on Level One and Level Two coaching courses. With more qualified coaches, we can increase our participation in schools and offer cricket to more people without having to increase the financial burden on our current members through further increased subscriptions. Thank you Cash 4 Clubs!'
By promoting the club within the community and forging links with local schools, Nailsea CC hopes to grow and sustain participation in cricket as well as create educational opportunities for people to excel in skills both directly and indirectly linked to the sport.
