Chulmleigh Badminton Club
Chulmleigh Badminton Club is the largest Badminton club in North Devon and the only one that encourages open access to all ages and abilities. Since inception the club has provided a safe environment for players to enjoy the sport and socialise.
The club encourages healthy exercise and believes the impact it has in the local area is huge; Wednesday club nights are a major attraction to players aged 6 upwards and Saturday junior coaching sessions attracts players aged 4-11.
Welcoming all ages and abilities to enjoy a Healthy Active Lifestyle Opportunity (using the HALO model) the club now wants to offer neighbouring towns and villages the opportunity to access the sport. By starting a network of clubs it is hoped that a further 250 adults and 500 young people will have been introduced to the sport of badminton by July 2012. To make this work it is imperative that more coaches are trained to manage sessions at these new locations. A series of taster sessions will also kick start the project.
Robert Smale, chairman, said: 'This grant from Cash 4 Clubs will allow us to take what has just been a vision until now forward. The £1,000 will be used to train volunteer coaches to the required standards and will fund a series of badminton taster sessions in surrounding towns. In short, the grant will ensure long term viability of badminton in the area whilst improving access to the sport.'
