Craggers Climbing Club
Craggers is run by a group of volunteers in East Sussex to provide opportunities for families on low incomes to get involved with adventurous activities such as abseiling, climbing, hill walking and kayaking.
The club runs training workshops concentrating on rope work, safety, first aid and self-rescue and in the last year members have taken part in trips to the Sandstone outcrops and the North of France.
The club has recently started to see that some of their equipment is getting too old for use and applied for a grant to replace this kit. By subsidising participation Craggers can ensure the club remains open to those on low income - if individuals were to purchase their own climbing and hiking equipment cost would become a barrier.
Anna Duxbury, Committee Member, said: "With our £300 grant we're looking to buy some new equipment. Due to the nature of the sport ropes, harnesses and climbing hardware have to be retired after a certain amount of time so the money will go towards replacing a large proportion of our ageing kit."
