Hastings and District Canoe Club
Hastings and District Canoe Club is based at Cinque Ports Way, Hastings. Whilst a fire destroyed a number of the club's boats a few years back members are working hard to actively introduce kayaking and canoeing to young people in the local area.
With more and more activity taking place over the summer months and with a number of schools now offering courses to students there is a need to ensure there are enough coaches to keep up with this demand. The club is run totally by volunteers and it is vital that everyone is trained to the highest standards before taking people out on the water. The club aspires to open its doors five nights a week and it is only with more certified coaches that they'll be able to do this.
Rocheen Durrant, Coach, said: "Whilst we're quite a small club our member numbers have been growing quite rapidly and in order to keep up with demand, we're going to use our £600 grant to train two of our Level 1 coaches to Level 2. With a more experienced coaching squad we'll be able to run more sessions which we hope will see our membership continue to increase."
