Durie's Boxing Gym
Durie's Boxing Gym seeks to engage young people in Glasgow to keep fit and active while installing discipline and respect into their lives. Many of the club's members come to the club from the streets and its key aspiration is to make our community a better place to live by bringing young people together through boxing. With sectarianism being rife in Glasgow the club has initiated a policy of no football club colours - as when everyone walks through the door they are all part of one team. As the club becomes more established, the growing number of members means both more equipment is needed.
Jackie Durie, secretary, said: 'The £750 grant will mean that we can purchase a canvas and ropes for our boxing ring. And we're also going to invest in a few pairs of regulation fighting gloves for use by our boxers in competitions. We are open six days a week and it is imperative that we kit our boxers out correctly and the canvas and ropes will ensure we can continue to run tournaments which is a major source of revenue for the club. Thanks Cash 4 Clubs!'
