Aboyne Canoe Club

Aboyne Canoe Club was set up to offer: sea, river, open canoe, canoe polo, flat water and slalom opportunities to residents in Royal Deeside. Offering access to the sport throughout the year, the club also puts on specific competitions attended by some 20-30 young people each time.

During the winter months, when it is often too cold for younger members of the club to take to local waterways, the club runs pool sessions which provide a balance of skills progression and confidence building for all members. Recognising the importance of these sessions, particularly for beginner, the club is looking to spend the grant money on expanding and improving resources for these pool sessions.

Chris Redmond, Committee Member, said: "Canoeing is a great sport and we're going to use our grant of £750 to get more young people involved. The money given to us by Cash 4 Clubs will be used to hold more junior training sessions in a pool - a safe and warm environment to learn key techniques before venturing to open waters. We hope the new training equipment for these sessions will be used by many over the coming months!".

The club will use its grant is to support and encourage more youth and women into paddle sport and their volunteer coaches will give their much valued time to develop the skills of others in the club and prospective new members.
