Penybont Surf Life Saving Club
Based in South Wales, Penybont's prime function is to provide volunteer surf rescue, first aid and promote water safety at Ogmore-by-Sea during the weekends in the summer months. Having lifeguards on duty at the beach provides confidence and reassurance to the local community that conditions are safe and that help is at hand should it be required.
The club is made up of nippers, juniors and seniors and all members train regularly at a local pool and during the summer months at the local beach. Members have the opportunity to compete in Lifesaving sport and to develop rescue, resuscitation, first aid and beach safety techniques.
One piece of essential equipment the club needed was a Rescue Malibu board - a highly visible, valuable and versatile piece of life saving equipment for patrol use.
Richard Lewis, coach, said: 'We have used our £750 Cash 4 Clubs grant to purchase a Rescue Malibu board. We aim to increase participation in life saving training and activities for our members and to significantly enhance our existing voluntary lifesaving services to the community and general public at Ogmore-by-Sea. It is an invaluable piece of equipment and will enable a more speedy response to swimmers and bathers who become distressed while in the sea.'
