Sion Swifts Football Club
Sion Swifts is a voluntary based community football club in Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The club has become an integral part of the local community bridging the religious, social and ethnic barriers that have been so prevalent.
The club pride itself on being friendly and family orientated, catering for every player regardless of ability. Currently providing a structured range of football related activities seven days a week the club boasts around 350 members, the majority of whom come from areas of high deprivation.
Over the coming months Sion Swifts intends to grow and is keen to increase the number of female players. But before the club can attract new members, they need to increase the number of qualified coaches which is where the Cash 4 Clubs grant of £1,000 comes in. Five young members have been selected to undertake the coaching qualification and without the grant the girls and their families couldn't afford to take part.
Danny Gallagher, committee member, said: 'We're going to use our Cash 4 Clubs grant to help five girls attain their Level One coaching qualifications. Having played at the club for years, it is great that they want to put something back and become coaches. Having extra hands on deck will also mean we're able to increase the number of participants at each training session which is great.'
