Newcastle Athletics Club

Newcastle Athletics Club currently has 58 senior members and 60 junior members and has built a reputation second to none for development of athletic talent in Northern Ireland. The club's aims are to nurture the champions of tomorrow through expert coaching; structured training in all disciplines of athletics takes place on a weekly basis for children as young as 7 years old.

Cross community participation of athletes from all cultural and religious backgrounds has been enabled through a partnership with Shimna Integrated College. This partnership allows young athletes to train in a fun and safe environment. Training is provided for all abilities from those that are capable at excelling in competition to those who enjoy athletics for health, fitness and social aspects.

The junior club is expanding very rapidly and has a growing waiting list. In order to keep up with demand the club needs more qualified coaches which is what they plan to use their Cash 4 Clubs to deliver.

Martina Hawkins, Committee Member, said: "With a rapidly expanding junior club we were in desperate need of more qualified coaches. Our grant of £750 from Cash 4 Clubs means we are able to get more volunteers through their safeguarding children in sport course and a few more coaches through their Level 1 Athletics Award. This award really is a tremendous boost to our young athletes, their parents and our coaches!"
Additional coaches will ensure the club can continue to encouraging confidence and competence whilst inspiring young athletes to be the best they can be and to help them realize their full potential.
