Strictly Wheelchair Dancing

Strictly Wheelchair Dancing was set up in 2010 and is open to both wheelchair users and able bodied people who would like to partner a wheelchair user. Meeting every weekend, the club is attended by a significant number of local residents. Everyone enjoys the supportive atmosphere, the new friendships, and the opportunity to take part in wheelchair dancing.

Some of the club's members have normal everyday wheelchairs but recently funding has been made available to purchase three specialist sport wheelchairs that are suitable for dancing. With this in mind, the club approached Cash 4 Clubs to secure additional funding to purchase equipment which will enable many of the club's members to maximise the use of these new wheelchairs.

Jim Izard, Committee Member, said: "Strictly Wheelchair Dancing was set up to raise awareness of disability and highlight the value of participating in sport. With a number of skilled wheelchair dancers, members of our club were delighted that our Cash 4 Clubs grant of £750 will mean we're able to improve access to our sport. We're keen to purchase ancillary equipment such as spinergy wheels, rubberised push rims and lap straps that will see our members make full use of the specialised sports wheelchairs we already have access to."

With the equipment purchased by the grant, wheelchair users will have the benefit of feeling more secure with the use of straps and have the ability to move the wheelchairs more satisfactorily themselves with the aid of the rubberised push rims on the wheels.
