Sefton Stars08 Basketball Club

Sefton Stars Basketball Club launched in Merseyside back in 2003 with only one under 16s team. As a club they now boast over 250 players with a number of teams taking part in various divisions of England Basketballs national league.

With an entirely voluntary workforce, the club is looking to further increase their participation within the local community. Recent partnerships have been made with schools in the area and the club has initiated weekly basketball sessions on Friday nights which often attract in excess of 150 players.

In order to ensure the club can continue to grow, the committee are aware that they will need to ensure there are enough qualified training staff and officials in place. With an emphasis on ownership and responsibility, Sefton Stars' £500 grant from Cash 4 Clubs will enable them to secure commitment from ten of the your people currently attending their league sessions to attend and complete their Level 1 refereeing course.

Tom Walsh, Committee Member, said: "This is great news for a developing club like ours. We try to offer our players, coaches, referees, table officials and volunteers the opportunity to gain qualifications to help develop everyone who comes into our sports centre."
