Bridgewater Amateur Boxing Club
Bridgewater Amateur Boxing Club is based in Pendleton Salford. Established over 25 years ago the club aims to serve those living in the local community. With members predominantly coming from low income, single parent families the club seeks to teach fitness, discipline, teamwork and respect.
Many of the young people engaged in the club have been young offenders, or were deemed to be at risk of offending. With an open door policy the club's main goal is to bring through young talent to national and regional level and to give young people from Salford the opportunity, confidence and ability to participate in the sport that would not normally be able to afford to do so.
Due to the success of the club, it is now necessary to increase the volume of equipment available. In an ideal world the club would like to have enough head guards, sparring gloves and boxing kits for everyone young person to be able to use at training sessions.
Jane Gregory, funding coordinator, said: 'The £1,000 grant from Cash 4 Clubs will allow us to provide young people with more opportunity to take part. Without things like boxing gloves, head guards and punch bag mitts we couldn't operate safely. By purchasing additional equipment we are enabling the coaches to engage with more youngsters and train them to a higher standard.'
