Tyne Met Badminton Club

Tyne Met Badminton Club in Whitley Bay provides a fun environment for children aged 7 to 16 who want to learn to play, develop their game and compete, both within the club and against other clubs. Whilst it was only established in August 2010, the club already boasts a membership of 32 and despite being a young club it has achieved Premier ClubMark status.

Recently the amount of badminton played within schools in North Tyneside has increased considerably. However, having been introduced to the sport, there were limited opportunities for children to continue in an organised, community-based club. Tyne Met Badminton Club's role therefore is to help fill this gap. The club aims to get young people to participate in a healthy activity, learn fair play and to be given an opportunity to integrate with others in the community.

The club were successful in securing a grant and is now in a position to strive forwards, delivering more coaching to young people both in and out of schools, and offer higher quality training using the most up to date equipment available.

Mike Woodward, committee member, said: 'Our grant of £750 is going to go a long way. We're purchasing additional equipment and hope to send two volunteers on coaching courses. The end result will be more knowledgeable coaches delivering more interesting training sessions with varied and up-to-date equipment.'
