North Shields Hockey Club

North Shields Hockey Club is an inclusive club which provides opportunities and support to anybody who wishes to play field hockey on a friendly or competitive basis.

Founded in 2005 the club already boasts three men's/boy's teams and one lady's league team. In addition to this they offer junior coaching sessions and promote activities such as beach hockey enabling people in the local area to try the game for a few sessions or become more involved in regular training.

Working within a city the club continues to encourage participation in sport and offers affordable access to exercise. Whilst the club's membership and match fees are low the cost of kit is sometimes a barrier to people playing at a competitive level. The £500 received via cash 4 Clubs will enable them to invest in goalie kits, which often prove the most expensive part of the team's equipment.

David Yellowley, Committee Member, said: "With safety being a really important factor when playing such a physical sport we'll be spending our grant money on two new junior goalie kits. Knowing that the purchase of such kit is expensive the grant will mean we can ensure our players are fully protected without us having to pass the cost on to parents and guardians."
