Mid Ulster Netball Club
Mid Ulster Netball Club, formed in September 2010, is a junior club with over 60 girls from 9-17 years of age playing on a regular basis. The club believes sport is a medium that can build relations in a safe and neutral environment and seeks to bring girls from different religious, political and economic backgrounds together; creating a sense of belonging whilst promoting healthier lifestyles.
Rural Northern Ireland is an area with high unemployment, a lot of anti-social behaviour and limited openings for girls in sport so the clubs is delighted uptake has been so high. In 2011 the club expanded its age range and saw an increase in membership of 50% which has meant the club needs additional qualified coaches.
Margaret McCammon, Club Coach, said: 'We wish to continue to expand our membership but to do so we need more coaches. We currently have 5 girls who are no longer eligible to play in the junior league assisting with training and we would like to help them obtain their UKCC level 1 coaching award. The £1,000 Cash 4 Clubs grant will allow us to increase our membership and improve our skill level by increasing the number of coaches within the club.'
