West London Handball Club
Active Planet Handball Club will shortly open its doors to children who attend secondary schools in the Hammersmith and Fulham area. Set up to offer young people in areas of exceptional low incomes, and communities where the majority are from BAME backgrounds, West London Handball Club will offer free sports sessions to anyone interested in the sport.
Initially training sessions will take place on Saturday mornings; this will be an opportunity for young people not only to get active but will also see them socialising amongst each other. With the Olympics arriving in 2012, the club wants to capitalise on interest in the sport. The current aim is to have both boys and girls squads in place before London 2012 opens its doors.
Tom Armstrong, committee member, said: 'The £825 we've received from Cash 4 Clubs is such a boost! We're using the money to put four coaches through the relevant Level 1 qualification and will spend the remaining money on a training session coordinator. We hope these solid foundations will be just what are needed to see handball grow in popularity in Hammersmith and Fulham.'
