North East London Gymnastics Club
The North East London Gymnastics Club, based in Hackney, is affiliated to both the British Gymnastics and London Gymnastics Federation. The club which has been running for almost 15 years offers a wide range of gymnastics styles to its 300 club members as well as extending this to nearly 2,000 children through its schools programs. The club has in fact proved to be so popular it has a waiting list of over 500 children.
As a non-profit making sports club their aims are to promote and encourage participation in the sport of gymnastics for the inhabitants of Hackney, as well as promoting positive attitudes towards sport as part of a long term healthy lifestyle.
The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1,000 was awarded to the club to help the funding of new facilities which they had found. The new gym and dance building will allow the club to grow its capacity to some 700 members taking part in its regular classes. The grant will go towards the purchase of a sprung gymnastics floor, providing a safer environment with suitable flooring which will reduce the risk of injury.
"This floor will enable to gymnasts to perform more repetitions of exercises and perform to a higher level. This money will help the club move forward by updating the equipment and giving the children the opportunity to compete at a higher level," NELGC.
