Other sports funds

There are a wide range of other organisations to which you can apply for sports funding. Each organisation will have different criteria and different levels of funding available so you will need to research which are most suitable for your needs.

Foundation for sports and the art

The Foundation is funded by around £60 million annually from the Football Pools. Its aim is to increase active participation in sport and the arts, especially amongst young people. Funding is available for capital projects (up to £75,000), as well as much smaller grants and interest-free loans are possible where appropriate. Website: www.thefsa.net

Comic Relief - Sport for change

The aim of this programme is to fund organisations who use sport to make a positive change within the lives of individuals and communities. This may be where sport is addressing social issues such as crime related problems, exclusion of older people, and young people at risk. A maximum grant size of £100,000 is available. Grassroots Grants

This £130m government funded programme is managed by Community Development Foundation. The programme, which will run from 2008-2011, consists of a £80 million small grants fund for community groups and a £50 million endowment match challenge for local funders. Rugby Football Foundation - Ground Match Scheme

Funding is available for rugby clubs only with grants available from £1,500 to £6,000. Clubs at level 5 and below in the English Clubs Rugby Union Championship are eligible to apply for a loan or a grant, while Clubs at level 4 and below are able to apply for a loan. The Ground Match scheme is targeted at capital projects which contribute to the recruitment and retention of community rugby players and the funding is on condition of 'matching' a club's own funds. Dickie Bird Foundation

The Foundation aims to help disadvantaged young people to participate in sport to the best of their ability. Grants of £100 - £5,000 are available for organisations as well as individuals for things such as sports kit, coaching and training expenses. If more than £5,000 is required then match funding must be provided. Website: www.thedickiebirdfoundation.org.

Mars Refuel Fund

The fund has been relaunched for 2009 with grants of a maximum of £500 each on offer. Funding is available for whatever your team or club might need, so this could be anything from equipment costs, to improving training grounds and club houses. Grant applications can also be accepted from individuals who might be fundraising for charity through sporting activities, such as bike rides, and parachute jumps. It's your Community (O2 Fund)

This fund supports projects that help bring people together and benefit the community. This includes 'active' projects, and they have helped out with equipment for local clubs from football to cycling. Awards from £100 to £1,000 are available and are independently judged and administered by The Conservation Foundation on behalf of O2. For details see: www.itsyourcommunity.co.uk.
