Sport England
Sport England is a government agency whose remit is to help the growth and sustainability of a world-class sporting system here in England. They have a big job on their hands and lofty goals. They accept applications for grants for sports clubs throughout the country.
£45m is available through open applications each year for at least the next three years, resulting in £135m being awarded to good causes through this system. They will also identify those in need through solicited funding which amounts to £158m each year.
Their major goals are to grow participation in sport and to sustain that growth to fight the usual drop-off in sports undertaking in the 16-19 range. They also aim to nurture that special natural talent so that the country excels at a wide range of sports from top flight football stars to gold medal calibre Olympians.
Their overall goal is to create a vibrant culture of sporting excellence in the UK. They aim to do this in part through funding for large and small projects. There are several stages in this process with open and closed funding rounds. Some of these are even themed so that they concentrate on a certain sport, for example youth boxing coaching, and then take applications that will only focus on this aim.
